Peter Meyer
laboratory director
Peter is the Alachua, Florida Laboratory Director. He has over 30 years of experience in aquatic toxicology and client management. He has held a lifelong interest in aquaculture and animal husbandry. Particularly in the areas of ornamental aquaculture and herpetology. After completing an education in Zoology at the University of Florida, Peter began work at CH2M Hill’s bioassay laboratory in Gainesville, Florida. There, he became the lab’s manager and developed it’s protocols and procedures based on publications from institutions like EPA, ASTM, OECD, ISO, and others. These publications describe many different kinds of bioassay test methods designed to evaluate potential toxicological effects of exposures to samples of whole effluents, receiving waters, sediments, soils, and commercially prepared products. When toxicological issues arise from testing by these methods, Peter leads investigations for toxicity identification/reduction evaluations for projects or permit holders that have significant toxicity issues.
The CH2M Hill bioassay laboratory changed hands in 1995 becoming Hydrosphere Research and again in 2022 becoming part of EcoAnalysts. Peter continues on as its Manager and now, Director. Notable projects participated in during this period include the Kingston TVA Coal Ash Spill (2008) and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (2010).
